Perloz - The town

 
This small and pretty village clings to the slope of the mountain at a height of 661 m. right at the entrance to the Gressoney Valley. The landscape develops between the two sides of the River Lys. It's surrounded by chestnut woods and orchards, in a very sunny position. Some of the notable old trees that you will find among the villages are famous throughout the district.

The village and its numerous hamlets scattered around the landscape offer the visitor many varied opportunities.

Going up through the small, narrow roads from the town centre, you can visit Charles Castle, Vallaise Castle, and the parochial church of San Salvatore, whose facade is decorated with a giant fresco representing 'The Judgement' by painters from Valsesia.

Apart from its town centre, the district is also composed of numerous and picturesque villages, of which the majority are still inhabited all year round, or at least at the weekends. They are situated in a panoramic positions, surrounded by nature, and here you can enjoy wonderful views of the surrounding mountains and the lower valley.

Sports activities available in the town and the surrounding areas include: in winter, excursions with snow-shoes and to the Lys villages; downhill skiing, sci alpinismo, cross-country skiing. In the milder seasons: cycling, traditional bowls (bocce), and 5-a-side football.

Accommodation, characteristic and welcoming, offers visitors a pleasant stay, and the shops provide local products.

On the second last Sunday of July, there is a traditional gastronomic festival called the "Festa del pane nero" (festival of black bread) . On this occasion the old communal oven is used cook the black bread. The oven is located in Marine, where, with previous booking, you can also visit the Museum of the Resistance, the old-time school and the mills of Glacières.
In Tour d'Héréraz, for over 20 years, the "Bataille de Tchevre", (the Goat Battles) have been held every November.
