Lillianes - The town

Lillianes
In picturesque countryside in the middle mountains, situated at a height of 655 m. and like all the villages of the Lys Valley, occupying territory on both sides of the river. The right hand side is steep and closed at the top by Lose Bianche (2424m.) with characteristic villages clinging to its sides, keeping intact the fascinating atmosphere of times past.
The left bank is wider, and from the watershed crest which separates Valle d'Aosta from Piedmont, smooth, undulating slopes descend.
The town centre and the numerous villages, scattered throughout the territory offer the visitor many opportunities.
In the main town you can visit the parochial church built in 1723, situated in the town and reachable through the bridge that joins it to the town. The present building was built on the ruins of an old chapel dated 1490.
The main village, beyond its centre, is also composed of numerous and picturesque hamlets, some of them inhabited all year round or at least on weekends. Situated in panoramic positions and immersed in nature, from here you can enjoy excellent views of the surrounding mountains at the bottom of the valley.
In Lillianes district you will find many chapels, among the most memorable to visit are Santa Margherita and Suc chapels, on the left bank of the River Lys. In addition, on the right hand side we would emphasise the chapel of Riasseau.
In the village, characteristic and hospitable accommodation offers visitors a pleasant stay, where they can enjoy the shops selling local products.
Sporting activities available in the villages and the territory nearby include : in winter, sci alpinismo, excursions with snow-shoes (and cross-country skiiing in the surrounding district) : in the milder seasons, walking and trekking, cycling, canyoning, tennis, bocce (traditional bowls), 5-a-side football.
The Sagra della Castagna (chestnut festival) in October is particularly interesting.
